"Sometimes, we think we can just think ourselves out of emotional pain. We think, "If I just bring my thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ, my emotional pain will disappear." That is not true. While it is not good to focus on the offense or source of our pain for an extended period of time, not focusing on it does not completely heal us. Our thoughts and our pain are not the same thing. Deep emotional pain and trauma need to be healed by God. It is very helpful if we cooperate with God in the process by claiming scripture verses, applying spiritual disciplines like forgiveness, and being careful with what we think about. But, deep emotional healing comes by allowing God to apply the Balm of Gilead to our wounded soul and by allowing Him to be Jehovah Rapha...The God Who Heals."-Doris Little
