Lately, I've been asked, "What is co-dependency, and how do you know if you are co-dependent?" Some of the best definitions I have found are..."A co-dependent person is one who has let another person's behavior affect him or her, and who is obsessed with controlling that person's behavior. It is a dependency on people--on their moods, behaviors, sickness or well-being, and their love. Co-dependency is a way of getting needs met that doesn't get needs met." I am a former co-dependent, having become that way trying to cope with outrageous childhood and adult circumstances. It's been a long journey of breaking free from that and realizing that I only need to change, control, and take of myself. :)
